This is SO true! a few years ago I was lucky enough to hear Laura Liswood speak at a small conference luncheon. I was so impressed that I FORCED myself to chat her up afterwards. She was warm and personable and when I met her a year later she remembered me! It was worth getting over myself and taking the opportunity when it presented itself. (I also now have a 1st edition autographed copy of her 1st book! YAY!)
